Polish Sociological Congress is an event which takes places every three years with the main purpose of integration of sociological community and propagation od sociological knowledge among broader audiences. The Congress is a forum of exchange of thoughts between sociologists working in and outside academia, between social scientists and PhD candidates, students and other representatives of various milieus, NGOs and other cultural and economic institutions.

First Polish Sociological Congress was organized in 1930'. During four days of the Congress many open lectures, plenary sessions, debates, symposia and workshops are organized. In total, over 90 thematic groups meet to listen to and discuss over presented papers.

This time the meeting is going to be held under the theme “Me, Us, Them? Subjectivity, Identity, Belonging”. It makes it possible for representatives of all sociological subdisciplines and related sciences to participate actively in the event and allows a new approach – to integration and conflicts, to capitals and values, to diverse faces of  multiculturalism and to the consequences of contemporary migrations, to struggles for social order and lifestyles, to the identity and condition of the Polish sociology, to the role played by sociologists in the contemporary world, to old and new social problems, to debordering and rebordering of various kinds, to the complexity of the contemporary world.

The Organizers of the Congress would like it to become a place for a critical diagnosis of the condition of the Polish society in Europe and in the world. We want the voice of sociologist, based on reliable and valid empirical data, to be present in the public debate.

The Congress combines the global and the local: we want to discuss issues specific to Polish context with active participation of foreign guests (key thinkers in sociology from around the world) and also to look for answers to questions which stem from local (urban, regional) context of Wroclaw and the Lower Silesia region.

One of the main ideas and values of the Congress is openneness to various social millieus (ethnic minorities, NGOs, cultural institutions), broad participation and a chance to present original empirical results from various professional and national (Czech, German, Ukrainian) standpoints.

XVII Polish Sociological Congress will be organized from 11 to 14 September 2019 at Wrocław Stadium.

The Congress is organized by Polish Sociological Association and Institute of Sociology at University of Wroclaw.
